A.J. Burnett has been giving James McDonald some tips on how to make it as an MLB pitcher. Something’s working, because McDonald took a no-no into the 7th inning yesterday. And James McDonald isn’t even good, right?
Unfortunately for Jimmy Mac, the Pirates offense continued to slump. The score was 0-0 when Troy Tulowitzki broke up the no-hitter and the Pirates ended up losing the game 2-1.
The Bucs did manage to win game 2 of their double header. Pedro Alvarez hit his fourth homer, which is worth watching to hear the ball clanking against the foul pole.
Elsewhere, the Cardinals avoided a sweep at the hands of the Cubs (gasp!) with a 5-1 victory. David Freese homered (4) and had 3 RBI for the RedBirds.
And the Reds scored all 4 runs in the bottom of the 7th inning for a 4-2 over the Giants, improving to .500 for the season.
Only one NL Central game today on a Short Schedule Thursday…

Why You Might Watch This: It’s the only game available, so you’re kind of stuck with this, aren’t you? Anyhow, the Reds are going for a sweep.
- Nick Masset’s rehab includes holding his baby. I assume not while throwing, though.
- Former Red Dmitri Young might have the best collection of rookie cards in MLB.
Other Team News
- Kerry Wood is strengthening his shoulder. And the Cardinals hate the new right field scoreboard in Wrigley Field.
