The St. Louis Post-Dispatch wonders out loud (in print) whether or not the Reds’ chances at an NL Central title depend on the bat of Scott Rolen.
Seems like a bit much to expect of a 37-year old third baseman.
Rolen only played in 65 games last season, but posted an .854 OPS in 2010, good enough for a 3.5 WAR (BaseballReference version) which is solid, of course. But… he’s 37!
He was off to a great start with an opening day line of 3-for-4 with a double. I’m going to go out on a limb and say that if he bats .750 in a full 2012 season, he’ll probably win the MVP. But I’m also insane.
